Memories of the Alhambra (Netflix)

After discovering Hyun Bin in Crash Landing On You I had to see what else he’s done. Memories of the Alhambra is set in the world of computer gaming. Augmented Reality to be specific. Please do NOT let that stop you from watching because you do not need to be a gamer to appreciate this K-drama. I know nothing about gaming and have absolutely zero interest in it. But Memories of the Alhambra had me on the edge of my seat from almost the beginning.

A good portion is set in Granada, Spain in a hostel run by a Korean family. This K-drama is action-packed and filled with intrigue. FYI, this is not Crash Landing On You Hyun Bin you’re going to see. No Ri Jeong-hyeok to be found anywhere near this character, or is there? I’m currently watching this again because my daughter wanted to see it. Taylor’s even less interested in gaming than I am but one episode in and she’s hooked.

Sit tight with this one because you’re in for a ride! There is a romantic storyline as well, but honestly, it wasn’t needed. In my opinion, I would say it was lacking chemistry and felt forced—which is too bad because they could’ve done without it and it wouldn’t have really changed the story. We don’t see Hyun Bin in the finale enough and it didn’t have the same excitement as the rest of the 15 episodes. There was at least one unanswered question but maybe they want the viewers to make their own conclusions? I’m not fond of this unless a second season is planned but I’ve learned for K-dramas this is rarely the case.

  • What other K-drama have you heard the classic song featured in the AR game? Hint: pretty sure it was a fun nod to Memories of the Alhambra.

  • Do you know which fellow actors both leads are married to IRL?
